One semester plus summer Program

With this program you could have the benefits of the one semester program combined with the excitement of the summer program. You could have great tours and a larger group of people from home to share your experiences with. The touring is an opportunity to see some of the most famous attractions in China while staying in comfortable hotels and having great meals everyday. Here are some more details about the program.

Teaching:
There are two main types of educational facilities. One is an English training center the other is the grade school. The grade schools could include elementary, middle school, high school or university levels.
In the grade school, classrooms will typically have blackboard with TV sets and air conditioners. Computers with Internet will be available at the school, and office space for the teachers will also be available. Basic teaching materials and supplies will be provided by the school. The student’s ages range from kindergarten up to senior high school. There will be 20-35 students in one classroom and about three or four different classes a day. The focus of the class curriculum is conversational English. The teachers base their lessons on the textbooks and supplement this with games and other educational and entertaining activities.
The training center will be in office like space with rooms for small class teaching. You will have close contact with a few students each day and teach in a round table format. Your students may range from kindergarten to adult. You may also have poster board or a small blackboard for writing. The training centers will all have air-conditioning, computers and all necessary materials for teaching. The focus of the lessons will be conversational English as well as the subject of the students’ interest. You be given textbooks to teach from but you will need to supplement this with your own lesson plans.
Note: To participate in summer plus semester position, there are two ways to participate.
Option 1: We can find a placement at one school that will stay the same for you throughout the summer and fall.
Option 2: We place you in one school for the summer program and one school and a different school for the fall.
Each option comes with different criteria and inclusive benefits. Read below to learn more.

Schedule:
There are two types of schedules you could have if you participate for both the summer and semester. They follow along with "Option 1" and "Option 2" mentioned above.
With "Option 1" your schedule will stay roughly the same throughout the summer and semester. In that schedule you teach on average 20 hours a week for about 6 months. There are about three or four 50 minute classes everyday for 5 days a week. You could start the program from February and have it run through August, if you wanted to begin with the semester and finish with the summer. Alternatively, the program could run from July until January if you want to start with the summer and finish with the semester.

With "Option 2" you would teach for a semester with the typical semester schedule (20 hours a week for 5 months) but during the summer, you would teach up to 30 hours a week for up to a month and a half. The summer program typically begins in early July and runs until mid August. There are two options of how to get reimbursed for the extra teaching hours, and that will be discussed in the salary section below.
If you begin with the spring semester you may have about a one week break before the summer starts. If you begin with the summer, you may have a week break before the fall semester begins.

Living Arrangement:
All teachers will stay in a furnished room with the minimum of air conditioner, attached bathroom with hot water, bed, desk, chairs and electric outlets. Most sites also have TV, refrigerator, telephone, and computer as well. The utilities will be covered sufficiently for your needs.
Under "Option 1" you will get medical coverage throughout your 6 month stay, but there are a few options. Some schools will provide insurance through a third party insurance provider, some schools will provide a medical coverage stipend and some schools will give free access to their on campus clinic.
Under "Option 2" you may only get medical coverage during the semester but not the summer. Additionally, during the summer you may need to have a double occupancy room instead of a single.
For any concerns or problems you may have you will be given a staff person’s number and your local host’s numbers that you can contact for help.

Touring:

For those under "Option 1" touring will not be included as part of your package. But schools often arrange little local tours for teachers as part of their independent programs. Under "Option 2" you would have around 4 days of inclusive touring. You would have the option of touring either Shanghai, Beijing or Hong Kong, along with some other local destination. Please note however, that your requests for touring destinations would be determine the location of your school and since some schools have higher qualifications or restrictions than others, not all requests might be fulfillable for all teachers.

Requirements:

The essential requirement is being a native English speaker. Persons with better pronunciation and grammar, teaching degree, college degree, or experience teaching abroad will be preferred. All are welcome to apply. Your chance for acceptance depends on the number of applicants.
